Help me make California history come alive for my students!
My fourth graders are curious students who are excited to learn about their great state!
My students are also deep thinkers who love to ask questions. They are excited about California history and ask many questions about its past! However, one thing my students need practice with is public speaking and performing. I am excited to partner with Disneyland's CREATE Grant to provide my students with a chance to practice their performing skills, learn California history, and meet several art standards all at once!
My Project
The materials I am requesting will help make history come alive for my students while meeting several art standards! My students will use the books about California history to meet fourth grade Performing Arts Standards 5.1: Dramatize events in California history. My students will research an aspect of California history and dramatize it for their classmates. This will also help meet standard 5.3: Exhibit team identity and commitment to purpose when participating in theatrical experiences. I will use the yarn to have my students weave baskets like the Native Americans of California did! This will meet Visual Arts Standard 2.4: Use fibers or other materials to create a simple weaving. This will be a memorable experience for my students, especially my tactile learners! Finally, we will use the blank books to research and write books that will meet Standard 5.3: Construct diagrams, maps, graphs, timelines, and illustrations to communicate ideas or tell a story about a historical event.
I know that making California history come alive will impact my students' lives in more than one way!
First, performing in front of their peers will help my students' confidence in their public speaking skills increase. My students will also feel proud of themselves as they create maps, timelines, and illustrations in their blank books. I am so excited to team with Disneyland's CREATE Grant to help make history exciting for my students while meeting several art standards! Thank you, Disneyland!
