My students are amazing, smart, strong, and resilient. Our school's population is still recovering from the impacts of Hurricane Irma. Some of my students live in homes that still have a blue roof, concrete floors, or other damage.
Each student has different language needs and comes from vastly different cultures and experiences.
Some of my students are second language learners and most require differentiation of reading with individualized support on a daily basis for success. All students at our school receive free breakfast and lunch every day.
My Project
Reading aloud is a great way for 1st graders to practice reading, but how much better would they become if they could watch themselves read? My project has two phases. First, by recording themselves on camera, my students will be able to see and hear how they read. They will use repeated recordings to become better readers and increase their confidence as they improve their oral reading skills. Second, my students will increase their comprehension and knowledge of the text as they write scripts and create costumes to perform their story.
To accomplish this goal, my students will need a camera with accessories, microphone, and video publishing software to create their digital projects.
Students at any reading level will benefit from this project no matter their individual skill level. Eventually, I hope to create a site where students are able to share their love of reading and videos as a resource to other students around the globe.
