Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Can you imagine how exciting it is for first graders to listen and watch books come alive? My students are beginning to jump on the technology bandwagon and need a couple of eBooks to stay engaged in reading during Literacy Centers!
My students attend an all girls school in a high needs area of the Bronx.
My school encourages young girls to reach for their dreams no matter how many obstacles stand in their way. It's exciting to see how they are becoming beautiful talented young ladies who love learning and love coming to school each day. My students love exploring funny and interesting characters in fiction books as well as learning new facts about animals and the world in nonfiction books. They are passionate about helping others in their school and classroom community. My students love to talk about their observations and life experiences with anyone who will listen. They inspire me daily and their love of learning is so infectious!
My Project
We would like to add two Barnes and Nobles Nooks to our Literacy Centers routine! With these two new eReaders, my first graders will enjoy listening to books while following along with their eyes. These eBooks can help my students independently choose what books they would like to read and listen to through technology. Our current listening center materials are scarce and they are not engaging. With the Nooks, my students will experience listening to and watching fiction and nonfiction books come to life. They will also enjoy playing fun literacy games after reading. My students don't have many opportunities to use technology in the classroom, and these eReaders will allow them to enjoy technology while reading fun, informative, and intriguing books!
My students would greatly benefit from these eReaders.
While they listen and read along to stories, they are able to focus on reading with fluency and expression. They will also be able to think deeply about characters and important events in the book without struggling to decode words. This will positively effect their reading comprehension. Lastly, the eReaders will expose my students to technology that we don't have in the classroom.
