Motivated. Ambitious. Caring. Kind. These are just a few words that describe the students in my class. My students are enthusiastic to come to school each day and are motivated to do their best. They have ambitions to become productive, contributing citizens in society. These kids are caring and kind to their classmates, friends, family and staff. What is it that they are lacking? Alternative seating to enable them to focus more on the material and be comfortable in the classroom.
While our students may be lacking in financial resources, they have the ambition and motivation to do great things in their lifetimes.
Our remote, desert school is a Title I school in which the majority of students receive free or reduced price lunch. Many of our students come from military families or homes with single parents who are struggling to make ends meet. The alternative seating will allow my students who are high energy or special needs to get out some energy while still being actively engaged students.
My Project
These products will help my students participate in art lessons in which they learn proper painting and drawing techniques. Students will utilize the watercolor paints when creating art projects that correlate with social studies projects. They will use the drawing chalk to create art pieces which are tied to our science standards.
Students are more engaged when art lessons are tied to curriculum.
By creating pieces of art that correlate with what they are learning in core subject areas, such as language arts, math, science and social studies, students retain more information and can relate it more to their lives.
