Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My AP Human Geography students are 24 of the hardest working students on campus. They are taking a college level elective course, some of whom are only high school freshman.
Students in my AP class are college bound but many have limited study skills experience.
Some are fist generation and have limited support at home to be successful in college level courses and beyond. Although bright and inquisitive these students need the necessary resources and materials to make the content meaningful, engaging and accessible.
Our high school provides many things for my students including 1:1 technology however even the best technology can't substitute for basic critical thinking and analytical skills paired with good study habits and engaging curriculum that I know this project will help aid.
My Project
AP Human Geography is a subject that is all encompassing; we study the world and the imprint that humans have made upon it with their culture, architecture, transportation system, human migration flows, etc.
Getting students to understand a global perspective and cultural norms is extremely difficult seeing as many of the students I teach have not traveled outside of the state that they live in let alone the country.
The books I have requested allow students to discover an average daily diet in a variety of countries, or all their possessions outside their homes. The analysis of these sources help clarify the discrepancy and distribution of commodities readily available to the developed world vs. the developing world.
In addition I would love to be able to provide some study guides for their AP Exam. The AP Exam itself is over an $80 cost per student, then to add on the cost of a study guide can be a true financial burden to their family. I am requesting a few study guides that I would loan to those in greatest need in an effort to support their textbook and prepare for their AP EXAM.
