Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and from households where many different languages are spoken. The students in my classes are in the Gifted and Talented Program and are in third, fourth, or fifth grade. My school is a Title I school in which 100% of the students receive free lunch. They are a very curious group of learners and love any project that is hands-on.
They have many questions about the world and have been working hard to find those answers through collaboration, research, and experimentation.
My Project
We want to take learning outside the walls of our classroom! The students in my class are working on a project that will help them learn about the environment, finance, and marketing. My students will be creating botanical paper from recycled paper with seeds from our garden. This paper may be used as gift tags, greeting cards, or bookmarks. They will then develop a plan to market this product and sell it at a student-run farmer's market so that they can earn money to help support ongoing garden planting.
The students need a Chromebook so that they can create lively presentations and advertising pamphlets to market their products.
Using the computer to create their own advertising will allow them to strengthen their writing and presentation skills. They will learn techniques to market the product in order to make a profit that will be used to purchase seeds, plants, and other tools to be used in the school garden.
