Making and Creating in Makerspace

My Project

My students are enthusiastic about creating and getting to do projects. When given the option of extra gym time, outside time, or Makerspace, students overwhelmingly choose to do Makerspace. Despite our classroom lacking materials, students love to experiment with materials, create new designs, and learn new skills by using tools and equipment they would not get to experience using without Makerspace.

Students use skills they learn at school in a practical and creative way.

They use skills such as measurement, ratios, thermal energy, and scaling. Most importantly, they learn patience, diligence, persistence, and to not be afraid to fail, as well as to keep trying even if they fail. These are skills that need to be taught and practiced, and makerspace provides a safe environment for that to happen.

They will use the laser cutter to be able to do builds for Science Olympiad. Students will also be able to use the Cricut and button maker to create designs and innovations. They are excited to use these different tools, as they are something they don't have access to anywhere else.
