This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I school in a city school district. In our public city school, many scholars are diverse, multiple language learners and at-risk readers. Currently, the entire school population receives free breakfast and lunch. Many scholars are also from low-income households. However, they are warm, loving and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.

I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while promoting equitable access and allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.

My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for 18 years, and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.

My Project

These supplies will foster making and STEM in the library. STEM will enable scholars to discover solutions for community problems. Through learning LED programming and creating a product that has audio, scholars lives and learning will be greatly enhanced. Children will learn to use batteries and wires with a Makey Makey, LED lights and program messages pertaining to the curriculum and their projects. Through science, technology, engineering and math, children will also explore, discover, tinker, create and innovate to a better tomorrow. They will use Merge cubes to learn about augmented reality. With these supplies, learning will become more hands on and authentic.
