Making a STATEment!

My students need to learn about the states in the Union, but the set of state books we currently have was written in 2004. We can't continue to use them...please help me update our research projects.

My Students

Birch Grove Elementary School for the Arts is a part of Osseo ISD279. We are a Magnet school - focusing on integrating Arts (Dance, Drama, Digital Arts, Music, and Visual Arts) into all aspects of our curriculum.

Our students are creative thinkers who enjoy building individualized projects to show their mastery of a subject.

For instance - In our 4th grade research project we allow interested students utilize Scratch to build a digital representation of their state - to which they add visual and interactive elements to teach their classmates about economy, geology, history and the people from the state they have chosen.

My Project

2004 was a great year...but we need to move on. George W. Bush was re-elected, and no one had heard of Facebook, YouTube, Skype or Firefox.

Our state research books have a copyright year of 2004, which I need your help to change.

As a Media Specialist, one of my most important jobs is to teach our students how to read and think critically. I am unable to do that with print materials that have outdated information. We use a variety of sources in our Research units, including at least one print choice. I need your help to buy 52 new books, a set called "A True Book- My United States" that my students can use to learn how to do effective research.
