My students are curious learners who ask lots of questions! I see that as a good thing (even when it sometimes drives me crazy). Asking questions means they want to know more and are always learning!
My third grade students are not only learning two languages, but also learning in two languages.
Students have literacy and math in Spanish for half the day, and also have literacy and math in English for the other half the day. Students have me for the English half of the day, and a wonderful teacher from Costa Rica for the other half of the day.
My Project
I must admit that Math was not my favorite subject in school. But, I think I like it more now that I have changed the way that approach it.
My students and I use hands-on activities, conversations, and questions to see at math as a challenge to solve a problem using skills and strategies rather than as just a list of steps to memorize.
When I work with students in small groups in math, I need to use skill-based and enrichment activities to engage the other students as well. These materials will help make that possible!
I plan to have skill folders and math stations in the drawers in carts so students can choose different activities to work on when I am working with other small groups. I will help guide the selection by the folders I choose to place in the drawers. Students will use both dry erase boards and papers inside sheet protectors for these activities.
The dividers will be used to help keep the activities we are not currently using in order so they are ready when needed. The chart will help keep the small groups organized with a specific plan for which students are working in which group.
