Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A makerspace is a dedicated area of the school - usually in the library - stocked with craft supplies, trash for upcycling, blocks, and tech tools. Anything that inspires students' creativity is fair game!
Students at my school love being creative, and as their librarian, I would like to create a proper makerspace for them to use during their choice time.
Because of space and funding constraints, students have only had access to one type of project per week on a rotating schedule. This means that kids who are inspired by origami or pipe cleaners might need to wait several weeks until their favorite item is available again.
My vision is to create a makerspace that is fully stocked with a variety of supplies all the time so that students can decide what they'd like to work with. This would help transform our library into a place where students truly have freedom of choice.
