I teach in a K-5 elementary building. Our students are inquisitive and ask thought-provoking questions, with supportive parents. Typically most students who enroll in Kindergarten spend their entire elementary career within our school. We are a school that prides itself on PBIS implementation and the home school relationship. My school has also recently implemented AVID, which places emphasis on college and career readiness.
All of these support systems allows students to feel supported and more willing to learn.

My Project
Math can be a difficult subject for many students. Fractions, especially, can be challenging, but apply to so many real world instances. One of the biggest topics in 4th grade math is fractions. Students learn about parts of a whole, identifying, comparing, and simplifying fractions. Without a hands-on visual, this task will be difficult.
This project will provide each student in my class with a meaningful visual of fraction bars, that they can easily manipulate.
Students will be able to see a fraction as a whole, or manipulate different pieces. With these fraction strips, students will better understand fractions, which will allow them to follow recipes, have a better understanding of money and decimals, and many other real world examples.
