This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classes are eager to learn and try new things that apply to technology. I don't want them to leave my classroom just knowing how to click a mouse. I want them to leave knowing what makes a mouse click.
The students in my school are from a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds.
Most are eager to learn and try new things especially when they get to express their own creativity. When given a task such as Scratch Programming, they would rather make the assignment do more than was given to them. They enjoy working together and really have a sense of community while in the classroom. Our school strives to meet the demands of 21st century learners by providing our students with engaging access to learning through and with technology. We provide many after school activities free of charge such as technology, media, robotics, and SEMMA.
My Project
My students need items like Makey Makey, Squishy Circuits, and Stop Motion which allow them to explore STEM activities in a hands-on way. The items requested would be used in small focused groups to really dig deep into the STEM components being studied as part of our after school enrichment program. The items would also be explored as whole class activities during weekly technology classes.
I want my students to be able to leave our school with a broader understanding of what technology fields are out there for them to explore.
Many of them come from homes without college college educated parents, and I want them to see that there are options out there for them after high school. Plant the seed while they are young and hopefully the seed planted will produce great fruit.
