My Students
Our school is an exceptional 7-12 grade public charter school. Our students come to us from all walks of life: free and reduced-priced lunch, English language learners, special education needs, and gifted student population. My students aspire to be scientists and engineers, but often lack the opportunity to practice and experience these skills. My Career and Technical program affords my students the ability and opportunity to
Virtual learning has been a challenge for me and my students.
Managing students as they struggle to maneuver through several learning platforms and Zoom seems to take instructional time away from my students. My students also benefit from instant access to email while we are on live Zoom sessions.
Although my students have been learning virtually since the spring, it hasn't become easier or intuitive for all of them. As schools require more "rigor" and "normalcy" in instruction, some of my students continue to face connection issues. Student needs vary depending on their internet access, wi-fi speed, and the device they are using. This, coupled with the actual academic curriculum, makes learning a challenge for most students.
My Project
As my students and I continue to navigate through the world of virtual learning, I am finding it extremely challenging to demonstrate investigations for the multiple engineering courses I teach, from my home study. We have been in a 100% virtual learning environment since August, with no signs of returning to school anytime soon.
I need the space and storage organization to demonstrate a robotics build, and Arduino Digital Electronics concept, micro-bit project using multiple sensors and alligator cables, and much more, all in a span of a few hours.
The storage tool carts and accessories I'm requesting will allow me to store multiple projects and provide me with a mobile setup to demonstrate projects and activities from home.
The goal of our Career and Technical Education program is for young students from diverse cultures and background to "see" themselves as future scientists, mathematicians, engineers, and technology specialists. Being able to demonstrate these trade skills and empowering my students to mirror them at home, gives them a level playing field to forge into these competitive and high paying careers, right after high school.
My students have been fortunate enough to receive take home devices and Engineering supplies, but as we get into more complex concepts, as the school year progresses, I need more space to store and demonstrate activities.
The multiple drawers will allow me to store activities in progress, and provide easy access to tools and accessories.
