Kids need meaningful ways to spend their class money and this project allows my students to do that.
The students in my classroom are high achieving 2nd graders who love to come to school.
Our school community is close knit and we enjoy the ever changing population. My students have diverse, cultural backgrounds and interests, but we all are excited to learn from one another. We enjoy working in collaborative groups and sharing our knowledge with each other. We enjoy using our critical thinking skills to evaluate new information and make judgments about what is important.
My Project
This is an exciting project where my students can put their financial literacy skills into action. I am requesting plastic coins and dollar bills to use as classroom money. During the day, my students will earn different denominations of coins as they demonstrate ready, respectful, and responsible behavior. Each time an individual a new denomination of money, they may they trade their money in for the next amount, coins to dollars, singles to fives, etc. Using this money will give my students hands-on experiences handling money and the ability to practice making change. I am asking for Lego mini figures, two Apples to Apples games, and 2 state books to add as privileges that can be purchased from our class store to be used by students at recess. These incentives will motivate my students to increase their financial literacy. They will be motivated to set financial goals, create a budget, and save towards the incentive they would like to purchase.
This project is a meaningful way for my students to increase their financial literacy.
Each day they will be working with coins and dollar bills as they practice adding different denominations of money together. This project also provides activities for my students to do at recess that they enjoy and are motivated to work for. I am excited to get these supplies into the hands of my students with the help of generous donors.
