Our art students come from a variety of socioeconomic, cultural, and artistic backgrounds. Some of our students come to us and have never created art. I work hard to incorporate art creation, aesthetics, art history and art criticism into my students' lessons and make it my personal goal for these kids to enjoy walking into the art room to create! In our art room, we make connections to the core areas (math, reading, social studies, science, and writing) so students see that art connects to many parts of our lives.
Our art students are always creating, doodling, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving, critiquing, analyzing, comparing, and LEARNING!
We are a busy classroom!
My Project
Students in art, just in any classroom, work at different paces. When students finish their art, they choose enrichment art activities. After attending a few Makerspace and STEAM workshops this year, I set out to make these activities even more meaningful. These Makerspace STEAM supplies will not only enrich their art skills, but challenge their creativity, problem solving, and make innovative learners!
These supplies will help my students become the type of learners that 21st century schools and businesses look for in this technology driven world.
Students will use the badge maker and perler bead supplies to show their creativity. Little Bits (electronics kit) will challenge their problem solving, math, and engineering skills. Students will also work with Legos and Lego challenges to enhance their problem and team building skills, as well as their cooperative learning skills. These are all meaningful activities to work on when they complete their main art assignments in class.
My hope for my students is that they grow into learners, questioners, and problem solvers. In our classroom, mistakes are okay - and we figure out solutions together. I want kids to utilize their creativity and problem solving skills even when they finish their assignments. I would like to grow a series of activities and tubs of Makerspace activities that I rotate out throughout the year. These supplies would allow me to get a good start on my Makerspace for the art room. Help my students use STEAM skills!
