This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at a magnet middle school that has a mix of magnet and zoned students. I teach technology elective classes that focus on media and design. The majority of my students are from low-income households and from very diverse backgrounds.

My students love technology and being creative.

However, many of these students do not have access to technology outside of school. I try to make opportunities for my students to create projects based on real-world careers in technology and media.

My Project

I am creating different stations around my classroom to support types of manufacturing, engineering and the problem solving process. One of these stations will be devoted to sewing and embroidery. We were lucky enough to have received a wonderful machine in another project, but now I would like to provide the necessary supplies and accessories to support student projects designed in this medium. The sewing starter kit, embroidery thread and storage boxes will be used to make the space into a bright, colorful and inspiring area for students to develop and create their ideas.
