My students need hands-on, challenging, and fun activities for our Media Center Makerspace. Items such as the Goombi magnetic construction set will help all of my students, from kindergarten through 5th grade, explore!
I am an elementary Media Specialist, working hard to open minds, open hearts, and open doors with my students! I teach every one of our students, grades K-5, each week in 45 minute set lessons as well as additional time when we can co-teach with their classroom teachers.
My students love their time in the library!
They pore over new books, examine new resources, and work with their hands and brains to solve problems. Our kindergartners are learning how to find and select a "best fit" book, our third graders are writing and illustrating their own haiku poetry, our fifth graders are working to solve a hypothetical disaster scenario by assembling teams of qualified real-life scientists through research.
We live in a suburban area of Maryland. Our community is growing and changing rapidly, but our elementary school is very much a community and the heart of our little town. Our students may be part of local families that have lived in the same town for generations, our growing military population, or part of one of our newer families looking for a little bit of small town life near the Bay.
My Project
Our students love the Makerspace! What is it? Makerspace is time for students to work with hands on materials, making discoveries, being creative, solving problems, and learning from each other! All of our students, K-5, visit our Makerspace stations every few weeks. A variety of stations are chosen to be challenging and fun for each grade level, allowing students to choose the project they'd like to work on. They learn about physics, architecture, computer programming, engineering, magnets, the arts, and electronics all while strengthening their fine motor and problem solving skills.
These materials will help us provide a variety of activities at every grade level, allowing students to learn, explore, and grow every time that they visit our Media Center!
