Makerspace for Writing

My students need a variety of materials to explore in our new Makerspace writing center. The bean bag chairs will be used to collaborate on ideas and the materials will be used to inspire our stories.

My Students

My students come from very diverse backgrounds. They are all spontaneous, clever students, full of energy! Each student is special to me and our district! The diversity in the student body is great, which makes this place interesting as well as extremely open and accepting. Over the past 20 years, obesity rates in US children and youth have skyrocketed. I plan on putting an end to this, one student at a time, by learning and exercising simultaneously. I can’t picture any student that wouldn’t fit in here. I treat my students as family and I want them to feel the same in our classroom setting.

My Project

My students need a fresh creative writing space, to help advanced as well as struggling analytical writers, and a new way to build community among my students. Makerspaces can provide a wonderful new dimension to my class. The post-its and foam boards, will be on hand to help students who are drafting. Sticky notes enable makers and writers to generate and organize abundant ideas, making them immediately accessible. Byletting them play around with their ideas physically, you help them get their thoughts in order. Creative Makerspaces will ensure creative writers! Students will be able to create a character, design the building where a story takes place, do a photo collage inspiration board, and so much more before they jump into the writing process.
