This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school serves a high-poverty population, with 99% of students qualifying for the free or reduced-price lunch program. It is a K-5, Spanish, Dual Language school and serves a high number of English Language Learners.
Despite the everyday challenges that these students face, they come to school each day ready to learn and grow.
The students that I work with are energetic, creative, collaborative, critical thinkers who have a strong desire for knowledge. They deserve and need opportunities and access to materials and experiences that other children receive.
My Project
My students have creative minds and love inventing, designing and building during Makerspace! Some of the most popular activities have been Snap Circuits, LEGOs, Origami, and creating inventions and models out of cardboard.
As I have been hosting a Makerspace over the school year, I have realized that we need more supplies to support these activities!
The Snap Circuits kit will provide an additional kit and a look into green energy practices. The LEGOs and LEGO book will add inspiration to what we already have and provide more options for more students to create. The origami paper will support students who are learning the art of paper folding. The glue and hot glue gun will be helpful for fastening pieces of cardboard together for inventions and models.
This is a time when students are inspired, creative, and excited to be at school! They are not only working on their creativity, critical thinking, and engineering skills but also learning how to work collaboratively and solve problems in a group.
