Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Music, Making, and Technology are some of the most engaging activities for students to become immersed in and fascinated by. These experiences are not available to my students without access to certain materials. It is my goal to give my students experiences that are unique, fun, and full of learning.
In the world today, access to technology equates to opportunity.
In my classroom my goal is to offer as much opportunity for my students as possible. My students, a diverse group of learners from many cultural and language backgrounds, love to learn, and technology is a gateway to learning!
My students come to our Title I school from families who have often just moved to the United States. They come from many socio-economic strata and represent a wide-breadth of learning needs and styles.
My school embraces, above all else, the process of learning through doing and the benefit that tackling real-world problems in the classroom can have on students' learning process. The teachers at my school use a variety of strategies to engage students in this process of inquiry which makes our school a very special place. We are a community, but we need resources to succeed.
My Project
My students will use these materials to create their own unique musical instruments and learn about coding and DIY electronics in the process. They will be able to apply STEM knowledge to do something not only interesting but fundamentally creative. They will learn dozens of practical, 21st century skills in a setting that is playful and experimental.
Donations to this project will transform my students' experience of school and their relationship to learning as a whole.
Having a positive relationship to school is essential, and kids need to be interested and engaged in order to cultivate that relationship. I believe that one gateway to this is the use of technology and maker projects to stimulate student's innate desire to learn, experiment and create. By donating to this project, you are giving my students so much!
