My students need robotic kits and better tools that professionals would use to feel like they are really learning a valuable trade skill.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are tactile learners who need the satisfaction of creating things with their hands. They enjoy the idea of making things, and their curiosity guides them in their desire of wanting to know how things around them are made, how they work, and how they can fix them.
Most of my students come from an industrial area of Brooklyn, and will likely find jobs that require specific, industrial skills.
My goal is to help them explore these skills earlier on in their lives so they can enjoy the experience of learning.
My Project
After exploring basic woodworking and other creative techniques, my students are ready to venture into simple robotics. The materials I've requested are basic robotic kits that are meant to teach students the fundamentals of how to construct machines that require gears, motors, and solar power. With these kits, my students will be able to expand their understanding of construction to a whole new level and eventually create simple machines based on the kits I have ordered.
My students are extremely curious about how things are made, and they will more than likely end up finding careers in fields that require them to have a basic knowledge of using their hands to make and fix things.
By giving them an introductory course as an after school program, I am preparing them for their future careers while also giving them an opportunity to get creative and develop their kinesthetic skills.
