This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is an inner city school with more than 50% of students qualifying for free or reduced price lunch. In our classroom, half of the students are considered to be English language learners or students with learning disabilities.
My students are enthusiastic, energetic, and love to learn.
I am truly amazed and inspired by these thoughtful learners who come to school each day with a huge smile, an open mind, and an expectation that something truly wonderful will happen! I am blessed to be an ambassador of their learning!
Teaching in a classroom where half the students are considered to be either English language learners or students with Individualized Education Plans presents unique challenges. Abstract concepts (common in math and science) are extremely difficult to master. The ability to create a 3D model of learning transcends these barriers, providing a common "language" to accelerate learning.
My Project
My students learn best when concepts are presented in a tangible way with real-world applications. The MakerBot 3D printer would allow my students to take their learning to the next level! Imagine the impact of a lesson where a student forms a theory, applies the concept under study, and generates a 3d model based on her idea! The value of the lesson is through discovery and iteration. If at first she is not successful, she has a tangible model from which to redesign and work towards success!
My classroom is located in an inner city, high poverty district.
For most of my students, the classroom is their only access to technology. This single factor puts them at a huge disadvantage, compounded with each passing grade. Imagine the possibilities for my students when the "jumping off" point for learning begins with a MakerBot 3D printer! This technology will transform the way they think, generate ideas, apply learning, and solve problems!
