Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We don't live in Flatland. It's time we took our kids into three dimensions with a 3D printer by MakerBot.
My fourth graders live in a working class and immigrant neighborhood.
Most of them are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and all of them love to learn. Our Title I school is an important safe haven for my kids, who are surrounded by poverty and gang activity.
My Project
My kids want to create a zoo as a class project. Making pictures and posters of their favorite animals would be nice, but wouldn't it be great if they could create three dimensional animals? With the MakerBot 3D printer, my students will be able to "print" three dimensional plastic figures of their choice and assemble them to create their zoo. All they have to do is imagine a giraffe, gorilla, or dolphin, and they can make one right there in the classroom! Isn't that amazing?
In addition to innovative science and art installations, we will make 3D objects for all subject areas, including geometric figures for math and topographical maps for social studies. Touching objects will give my students opportunities for tactile learning that are so important, so they can learn from their hands, not just their eyes. We are asking for one MakerBot Academy 3D printer kit.
With your generous donation, my students will be able to take an object from the world of Flatland, visualize it in three dimensions, and then hold the object in their hands.
They will have exposure to cutting edge technology that soon will become a standard. My students and I thank you!
