My Students

Our class is a laboratory for technology related creativity. We program games and websites, build robots and apps, and consider all the ways to save the world and make it a better place from a computer science perspective!

My students are makers, inventors and computer scientists.

We using programming and physical computing to explore CS and STEM concepts. We are trying to build the first full-fledged middle school level CS department in our district. Our middle school is located in Seattle, a technology-rich city desperately in need of local talent. We're hoping to provide that!

My Project

This grant will allow us to fully explore physical computing, as well as allow us to show off our work to the rest of the school, who often wonder "What's going on in there?" Physical computing is an excellent way to recruit a diverse group of kids into what is currently a very homogeneous field.

By making computer science and physical computing fun and accessible, my kids will be able to see their own impact and efficacy in the world around them.

They will see themselves as builders, changers, participants. This will lead to better outcomes in their communities as kids impact them, as well as better educational and financial outcomes for kids, as they study and enter STEM careers.
