Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are explorers! We love seeing how things work, experimenting, and hands on learning. We implemented Engineering/STEAM in 1st grade. I am looking for ways to allow them to explore and try new projects. Our class motto is, "We are training our brains!" This is one way to make our brains "poofy".

We a first grade classroom in a Title I school.

We are helping our students become 21st Century Learners that will be creative, critical thinkers, collaborators, and caring and believe in integrating STEAM into our classrooms. My students are always looking for ways to explore. We have Failure Friday in which we are training our brains to learn that failure makes connections in our brains and helps us learn. We are redefining what failure means and are excited for more ways to learn in new and exciting ways.

My Project

Through use of the tool kits, we will be creating our very own maker space. We will be using these tools to take apart appliances that have been recycled or are no longer working. Maker Spaces give students the chance to see the inner working of different materials to try and understand how and what makes things works. We will be able to learn about magnets, gears, etc.

My students don't always have the opportunity to use tools in their homes.

I want to be able to provide that for them, the basics that I was taught in my own home, using screw drivers, hammering something together, etc. Not only will it give them basic tool understanding but engaged in providing hands on learning, exploring, and prepping students to be 21st Century ready.
