My students need materials to continue the STEM challenge units we began thanks to the generous donations of Donors Choose! This project is specifically for bubble wrap, saran wrap, tape, plastic bags and other items.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are resilient. When tasked with writing personal narratives about turning pain into power, like our inspirations and featured poets Jimmy Santiago Baca and Daniel Beaty, my students wrote and delivered stories that astonished me, visiting guests, and one another. They truly take my breath away.
Our school is a small, urban public elementary school with 100% of our students receiving free or reduced rate lunch.
In my Social Studies and Science classroom students conduct mock trials, debate current events, create online portfolios of their work mastering key concepts, design and film videos about course content, and we read, read, read and write, write, write. As an educator I am particularly curious about the ways technology can engage and empower, the potential of urban gardening has to improve student lives and learning, and the joy and rigor tinkering and maker-spaces can bring into the classroom.
Any resource we attain to help facilitate this kind of teaching and learning makes a huge difference!
My Project
Hands-on, student-directed tasks unlock creativity, not only give every student an entry point but access to rigor. We have begun STEM units with engineering challenges, thanks to the generous donations we received through Donors Choose!
My classroom community includes ELLs of all levels, students with reading and writing disabilities and above grade level readers--all of whom light up when writing and/or creating.
As students began to design prototypes for Mars Landing devices it became clear that we needed more plastic bags, bubble wrap, and other items. This project supplies us with the rest of those materials. Your donation of supplies makes these engineering challenges continue to be possible. The collaboration required for this iterative work equips my students with the problem solving experience integral to building 21st century skills. I appreciate your time and help!
