My students need a comfortable space, with bean bag chairs, an ottoman, and clip string lights, in addition to materials such as building block tape, assorted Duck tapes, and Wikki Stix to collaborate and unleash their creative genius!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a very diverse district, the majority of the students in my small district (only 2.5 square miles) are English Language Learners and many families are below the poverty line (approximately 95% of our students receive free or reduced lunch).
Our very committed and passionate teachers are dedicated to make differentiated learning opportunities as meaningful and relevant as possible so our students not only grow academically, but also gain confidence and build necessary skills such as communicating, collaborating, critical thinking, creativity, and compassion.
As the district-wide Librarian/Media Specialist, I am always looking for new avenues for supporting the teacher- and student-learners and designing the Libraries/Media Centers as a critical component to the teaching and learning process.
My Project
We are looking to create a space that is fun and unique and will help unleash student creativity and excitement through maker activities. Currently our library is filled with traditional library furniture that offers little excitement.
From splintering wooden chairs to old traditional library tables and dirty stained carpets, our media center is begging for a creative injection.
We need fun and exciting spaces for bi-weekly maker activities that challenge the mind, body and spirit, but are also engaging, colorful and collaborative for our students. I am requesting bean bag chairs and an ottoman, clip string lights, building block and Duck tapes, and Wikki Stix. Please help us to re-energize our Media Center space, so we can bring some maker fun to our students.
