Help me give my students more resources to grow their mathematical thinking through building community, projects, math games, crafts, and activities. Also, give them more opportunity for independent study and work time with headphones for every student.
The students at CS School are tomorrow's engineers! Our school is focused on the STEM Model and students experience an integrated STEM-based approach to learning in all subjects each quarter. Our students know that they are preparing for futuristic skills in jobs that do not even exist yet. In 4th-grade students switch classes for ELA, Math, and Science/SS. They also have an RTI elective period where they get to choose a topic of interest while students receive individualized intervention as needed.
The students who come to my class begin the year thinking they are just fulfilling their math needs for the 4th grade but in reality they are learning to problem solve, engineer, create, explore, and justify their thinking.
My students walk out excited and confident with their ability to attack any problem!
My Project
Our 4th graders walk into my math class with opportunities and experiences that push them towards mastery and application of mathematical thinking like they have never experienced before. My class is not a sit and listening environment. It is a move and do setting where everyone builds their own learning. In order to keep this level of learning, we are in need of consumable supplies we have used up as well as new resources to continue growing and reaching all student learning needs.
All of the supplies requested were chosen carefully with student input and will offer a unique and enhanced learning experienced for each child.
The books requested offer the professional development required to keep things new and fresh. The materials and board games allow for a creative outlet and logical thinking outside of the norm math class environment. The individual headphones for each student allow for a student-driven classroom where each child can work at their own pace and with their own objectives.
Together these supplies help shape the unique experience students need to see math as a creative, flexible, and exciting content that they can pursue throughout their lives. They learn to love math and love the opportunities mathematical thinking builds inside an engaged learner.
