My amazing students recently went on a trip to another island for a leadership conference. A student created a design for shirts for our team, but the plan to have them made didn't work out. As I last-minute frenzy shopped for iron-on options at a local superstore, I had a huge A-HA! Our media classroom could really use a cutting machine! Shirts, hydros, hats, and even stickers (which we will discourage from sticking on school computers!) could be designed, printed, and used by students with just a few additions to our existing media library.
Student creativity, entrepreneurship, and (of course) makey-makey skills will be supported with a cutting machine and some basic supplies.
Students spend a lot of time on computers and with screens as a part of our media classes, but need to also exercise skills like observing and interviewing potential users, designing with the end in mind, and using complex equipment safely and responsibly. I can imagine that a unit that includes project cost and ROI would be really helpful for students considering a small business side hustle! Please help us add to our media lending lab, which could be available to any student at our school who gets training on this super-fantastic technology.
