The Drama Club consists of a group of 4th and 5th graders who have a passion for the performing arts.
Most students in the Drama Club have no formal training, but are exposed to the arts through our school's performing arts program - and they realize they love it!
They are willing to give up recesses, after-school periods, and weekends to practice. Even after giving up all of this time, they still ask to come in for more. They can't get enough!
Because we are a Title I school, many students do not participate in extracurricular activities due to the cost of fees and/or equipment. The Drama Club gives these students a chance to participate in the performing arts, be part of a "team," and have a sense of community and responsibility.
During the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Performing Arts Program was eliminated. For many students, this was their avenue to express themselves, build self-confidence, and develop relationships. It also encouraged literacy development, motivated school attendance, and helped the students learn new skills, both onstage as performers, and backstage as crew members. The skills learned are applied in many areas of the students' lives, not just in performing arts.
Thankfully, we were able to bring back the Performing Arts Program, as well as the Drama Club. This sparked an interest in our entire student body. There are 40 members of the Drama Club this school year who will be putting on the production, Moana Jr.!
The supplies requested (under clothing and raffia hula skirts) are needed costume pieces for our production.
We thank you for your support, and for believing in the Performing Arts!
