My students need paints and two rolls of paper for our pre-k classroom.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Kelly's classroom raised $211
This project is fully funded
Andy Warhol was born, like my students, to working class parents and initially in school was an "outcast". He recognized at that time that he was different.
As time evolved, that difference manifested itself first in a one man art gallery and ultimately into the major pop art phenomenon of the 20th century. I want to show my students through art how to express themselves individually and what may now be perceived as a disadvantage can be cultivated and transformed into a face of individualism through art.
I teach 18 pre-kindergarten children in a large, urban school in the Bronx. The students come from low income families; all of the children receive free lunch. The children come from culturally diverse backgrounds and 90% come from homes where English is spoken as a second language.
The children need to paint! They need to explore sensory materials and they also need to strengthen their fine motor skills. While they paint, a child can learn to plan and complete a project. Each child's unique artwork represents their experiences and ideas. I also believe painting develops pre-writing skills. The children are four years old, so it will also help them learn color recognition.
As of now, our supplies for our painting easel are running very low.
I am asking for washable paint and two rolls of art paper. With your help, my young students will have paint and paper that will allow them to create for the entire year during center time. Hopefully, will will have some paint left for next years class as well. Thank you for taking the time to read our proposal and please consider helping make our first year in school a fantastic one!
