Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My Pre-k students are in a self-contained special education classroom due to their educational needs.

Some students are on the Autism Spectrum or have Developmental Delays. We are in the state of Maryland and have a High Poverty Level. Our program is located in a public school to give our students opportunities to interact with general education students.

My Project

Our students have disabilities that affect language- expressive/receptive and academic skills. Having an augmentative communication app on our classroom iPad would help increase student participation with learning and reinforcement. My students will be able to work in centers with the iPads, writing, reading, learning phonemic awareness skills, working with math manipulatives and more. They will receive adaptive technology to increase communication and expressive language.

Our students get very frustrated with expressing themselves because it can be hard and many times we do not understand.

This app will help students that struggle become more successful in expressing themselves. We can also share successes with parents to develop a home-school community so children can be successful at home as well.
