Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title I school in the South Bronx. The students are very diverse; we are a mix of African-American, Latino and some new arrivals from the Middle East and Africa. The school goes from Pre-K to fifth grade and over 95% percent receive free lunch.
The students in my classroom are all special needs students.
I am the IEP teacher for grades 3K-5th. They all have individual educational plans (IEPs). They vary in their needs from learning disabilities to social-emotional needs.
When planning classroom activities and conducting assessments, I keep IEP goals and outcomes in mind. I also keep the IEP in mind to determine how to collect and evaluate student progress toward educational goals.
My Project
An addition of a laptop desk to our classroom will make it easier to project google slides on the smartboard from anywhere in the room. The teacher can move around the classroom while engaging the students in the lesson.
Students are constantly making sense of who they are; classroom instruction needs to be responsive to their identities.
Together we can explore literacy, math and science topics via multimedia outlets such as Google classroom, iReady, Amplify Science, MineCraft education and Nearpods. We can go on virtual field trips, create digital content such as a classroom blogs and engage in self-care/wellness activities.
These days we spend a lot of time hovering over a computer; even in the classroom. A laptop desk can help eliminate back, neck, and shoulder pain. It's also not safe to use a Laptop on your lap. Laptops can heat up when they're working hard, and that means your lap can heat up too.
