Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what is was like the first time you wrote a story? Especially, when you were a second language learner! My students are having a difficult time in being creative when they are writing. My students are lacking in story structure, grammar and punctuation.
I am a second grade teacher in a Illinois public school; 98% of the students are Latinos and come from low income families.
My students are second language learners so you can just imagine how difficult writing can be. My students can orally express themselves so easily in their first language but still continue to struggle with English.
My Project
By providing writing materials my students will be able to use manipulatives that will help them enjoy writing. The materials will help them master sentence structure and become better writers as they unscramble sentences, practice punctuation, and capitalization. They will also be so eager and excited to write creative stories as they describe the setting, characters, plot and much more by using writing manipulatives. My students will become much more confident in their second language and become great writers!
Please support my students become more confident writers by providing them with the necessary manipulatives that will help them strengthen their writing weaknesses.
The students will become more excited to learn and master the necessary skills to be a great writer!
