I absolutely LOVE math and LOVE teaching math, and what better way to make real world connections is there than through the use of a DynaMath Magazine subscription?
I teach two groups of 33 wonderful, energetic students who love to participate in my lessons and activities.
I am always looking for new and creative ways to make math real. Unfortunately, we are in a very large Pennsylvania public school system, that is currently experiencing a fiscal crisis. We won't get enough supportive services, and definitely won't have ample consumable supplies for the students.
Two thirds of my students receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch, which means they are living at or below the poverty level and without your help, might not be able to afford this educational, motivational tool.
My Project
I am requesting two class sets of DynaMath, a monthly magazine that makes math meaningful and engaging by connecting essential concepts to real-world subjects like current events, science, and everyday experiences. Every issue features six captivating nonfiction articles that relate math to extraordinary news stories from around the world. With over 40 practice problems in every issue, there are plenty of opportunities to reinforce skills and assess student progress. In addition, Dynamath supports Common Core Standards and comes with online resources, including videos, math games, and printable skills sheets.
Filled with amazing photography, award-winning editorial, and skill-building activities, this magazine will not only inspire my students, but will also help me teach more effectively.
My 2 classes of 33 students each, (72 subscriptions will allow for visitors to have a copy too) need to receive the DynaMath magazine to make personal connections and apply classroom learning to real-world experiences and events.
Through our discussions and activities that stem from articles in DynaMath, my students will come to see themselves as indispensable members of society.
