This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever been bullied? Bullying can be a very stressful time for kids. Students may be fearful of attending school, using the bathroom or being alone in the hallway. This fear and can make it difficult for the child to focus and engage in the classroom, making learning that much more difficult.
My students are first graders attending a school located in a low social-economic area in Los Angeles.
There are 15 boys and 7 girls between the ages of 6 and 7. My class is composed of 100% Latino students with parents from Mexico and Central America. All 22 students are Spanish-speaking students with Spanish-speaking parents. Most of my students live in a home where the environment is not safe and are likely to be bullied or be bullies themselves. Even though most of my students are growing up on a bad home environment, they are full of energy and eager to learn.
My Project
These resources will help raise awareness of bullying behavior in my classroom and help my students deal with bullying in a more effective way. The book "Bullying in Schools" will provide an opportunity for my students to reflect on how they have dealt with bullying situations in the past and learn new ways to deal effectively with bullying in the future. The stories narrated in this book will allow my students to make personal connections and reflect on similar situations or emotions in their own lives. They will have the opportunity to discuss and learn about the behaviors and ways to prevent bullying in our classroom/school. With the aid of the tablets my students will be able to research and analyze behaviors that could be considered bullying and how to prevent them. With the information found using the tablets my students will be able to generate multiple solutions for dealing with bullying situations.
The literature requested for this project will help my students better understand the extent and seriousness of bullying, recognize the behaviors that can lead to bullying and how everyone can help control bullying.
With the aid of the technology component my students will research and learn different strategies to effectively respond to bullying behavior and situations. Help me EMPOWER my students to actively prevent and stop bullying in their school.
