This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Hilltop Elementary 4th and 5th graders were given an opportunity this year to to participate in after school sports through a City Grant. The programmed received immense interest from the students, with 35 students participating in basketball and 50 in soccer. However, the season only consisted of eight practices and one tournament. The students left the tournament extremely enthusiastic about playing, but left without further, organized opportunities. I would like to change that next year by creating teams that participate in a local league. However, we need equipment!

Team sports has been proven to provides physical, emotional and social benefits for students of all ages.

The soccer balls and ladders would be used exclusively by the teams, and would replace the outdated, and worn out recess equipment we currently share.

The goal is for students to learn how to play the game, know what it is to be part of a team, and promote a healthy life style by staying active. This after after school team will be inclusive to all students, regardless of skill level, gender, or ability to pay-to-play. Your support would make a huge difference for our 4th and 5th grade students!
