This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very resilient and are determined to do their very best and succeed regardless of the curveballs that life throws at them. Many of them are rich in terms of heart but poor in terms of money. They are mostly students of color from marginalized parts of our society and they burn with a passion to change the world and make it a better place for everyone. They want to learn and thrive in Advanced Placement classes (AP Statistics) because they realize how important Statistics is to critically analyzing and finding real solutions to problems. Unfortunately, sometimes lack of resources, like a TI-84 calculator, holds them back from reaching their true potential. Regardless, they will make it because they are driven but having the calculator will ease their way.

My Project

These calculators will help enable students of color from economically underprivileged backgrounds access Advanced Placement exams that have historically not been accessible to students of color. Students are currently using an online emulator that is not allowed for the AP exam. By using this calculator, students will be able to practice and take the exam using a real calculator. Several students are from families that have never accessed college before and passing this course will enable them to still have a chance at applying for competitive schools and will enable them to save money while attending those colleges by gaining transferable AP college credits.
