My kindergarten class is comprised of 21 eager little learners! Our school challenges students and teachers to be G.R.E.A.T. every day by using grit, respect, empathy, adventure, and teamwork. We begin each day by greeting one another in our morning meeting and singing about getting "the knowledge to go to college". We challenge each other to be the best versions of ourselves everywhere that we go.
One of the most important things to me as a teacher is developing positive relationships with my students so that they feel safe to take risks while learning at school.
My class is very diverse, and each student has individual needs that need to be met in order to learn. I try to provide them with the support they need to succeed and encourage them to take ownership of their learning.
My Project
A floor table is exactly what my students need to help them learn about safe usage of new technology. That may seem like an odd request, but when students have not had much exposure to computers and laptops, they need a safe space to learn how to navigate them. A floor table will help them stay comfortable while using a mouse and wearing headphones.
With a new floor table as our computer table, my students will be able to focus on the specific tasks needed when they go to computers.
They will not be discouraged with wandering cords, because those are more easily organized with a table close to the floor. When my students currently work at computers, they sit at a kidney table with stools, because that is what we have in our classroom. With all of the cords, it can get very messy at the computer tables and cause disruption during center time. I want my kindergarten students to feel successful with computer technology and comfortable as they work on the floor.
