My students are eager and enthusiastic learners! They range in age from 5 years old to 7 years old, and are the smartest, most hard working kiddos I know. Our school is a neighborhood school, with a very multicultural clientele.
Our school, and my class, is made up of students of mixed ethnicity, gender, academic ability, physical and emotional ability, as well as socioeconomic status.
Our school is a Title 1 school, with a majority of our students needing Free and Reduced Lunch assistance. We use Full Inclusion principles in our school, and maintain that all students have a safe, nurturing, and excellent education.
My Project
Math manipulatives are one of the most important tools in a First Grade classroom. Maipulatives help students make concrete understanding of numbers by having tools they can physically touch and move to construct and deconstruct numbers. During COVID-19 Remote Learning, we felt these tools were to important to not give to our students in their at-home learning kits.
We need tangible tools to help our students understand numbers concretely.
Manipulatives are exceptionally important for young learners, and without these tools, many students will struggle to see and understand numbers.
We use these tools in many various ways while teaching many domains of mathematics concepts - number sense, operations in algebraic thinking, place value, skip counting (the basis of multiplication), and much more. Please help us to give our students a strong math foundation.
