Hello! I am about to complete my 30th year of teaching elementary school. I love what I do and feel called to teach. In my second grade classroom, we consider ourselves a "Framily" (a family of friends). We work hard to demonstrate respect, courtesy, and genuine care for each individual member of our class. I hope to make every child in my class feel loved, honored, and cherished, in spite of their many different needs and abilities. We work very hard to become the best readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and citizens that we can be!
Education has changed dramatically over the course of my 30-year career.
So much more is asked of teachers; we must be responsible for growing our students as learners while at the same time, tending to their social and emotional needs. I want to be the teacher who is remembered as one who made students believe that they could try anything and KNOW that they were loved/cared for/believed in whether their efforts were met with success or not. It is important to me that I stay current with the best teaching practices and curriculum so that my teaching continues to evolve and empower my students!
After 30 years in the elementary classroom, I am proud to say that I continue to desire to be the very best teacher that I can be so that my second graders can be the very best students that they can be!
After attending HelloLitCon, I'll be able to provide my second graders with the most effective strategies for improving reading comprehension and raising the level of student engagement necessary for the 21st century classroom.
Not only will I learn fresh, practical, and progressive literacy strategies but I'll gain knowledge of best practices for: Guided Reading, Running Record Analysis, Reading Workshop, Higher Level Thinking, Vocabulary Development, and the Reading Standards.
I'll be the BEST literacy teacher my second graders can ask for!
