Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are curious, funny, and dedicated. I teach two freshmen living environment classes and one Advanced Placement Environmental. Between both classes, I have roughly 80 students. The student’s age ranges from 14-20 and most of them volunteer their time completing community service hours across several different communities. About 25% of the school is comprised of students whose first language is not English, resulting in them learning their lessons and English.

Witnessing my student’s determination, can-do spirit and vivacious nature has made this the most rewarding experience I've had.

Science is an arduous subject for many students. To make science meaningful, conducting hands-on, exploratory exercises will draw students in and help them become excited about coming to class and science as a potential field of study.

My Project

The science supplies that your generosity will help to provide will allow my students to directly witness concepts and theories in action. It will also enable them to completely follow and to enact a thought experiment and witness the results of their hypothesis. Imagine reading or learning from a teacher or video about the movement of water into and out of cells. The facts can be memorized, however, the concept would be meaningless to you. Now imagine using a shell-less egg and watching it swell and shrink in response to different solutions. Which scenario do you believe to be more engaging, meaningful, memorable and better to understand?

Experiments bring science to life!

We cannot fail to develop the love of science to our next Tyson, Hawkins, Goodall, or Kaku. All students may not enter S.T.E.M fields, but the observational, evaluative and analytic skills they will develop will benefit them forever. A science-literate society is essential for informed policy and law decisions in an ever-progressing world.

Your generous donations will help put my students on the road to success this school year. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated and will uplift the spirits students who want to succeed in the field of science.
