This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I am requesting these materials for are in the 7th grade and attend middle school in the Los Angeles area. They and part of a Dual Language program, and work hard in middle school and high school to master science content in Spanish.
They are wonderful students most eager to learn and do science.
They love talking about Climate Change and coming up with "Weird Science Questions" to ask after class. An authentic hands-on experience, as this project provides, puts the learning and interest in science into their long-term memory.
My Project
It's what my students always SAY they want to do- dissect something! We study in simulations and in our textbook, but nothing compares to the experience of carefully and accurately examining and dissecting an actual frog!
They will enjoy the hands-on experience they have been craving and learn about body systems, an essential part of our science and health curriculums.
By learning about the frog body systems, they will expand their life science learning by getting experience with biological levels of organization, as well as structure & function. This lab will also have connections to their 7th-grade health units in which they develop an understanding of human bodies and their own wellness.
Their first dissection experience will be something they will never forget!
