Make Science Come Alive By Starfish Dissection Lab
My students need 6 Starfish kits to understand the fragile anatomy of marine life in an inquiry lab lesson.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Nova's classroom raised $340
This project is fully funded
My Students
Can you recall that moment of Ah Ha you had when you made your first discovery in Science Lab? Bring the thrill of scientific discovery to my middle school students by providing them with their first dissection lab. You will impact them for years to come.
We are a south east Florida middle school , located in a town with one of the highest foreclosure rates in the USA!
My students are without many of the basic supplies needed for daily lessons. Our district is not able to buy Science lab supplies so we make do with materials that can be gathered from home or very low cost. Last year we were able through grants to start an aquaponics program which made a huge impact on student learning, attendance, and positive attitudes. The students have often asked to be able to do dissection labs, and have been disappointed due to lack of funding.
My Project
The students will be able to engage in a major Science lab which will enable them to make connections to a marine organism anatomy and function. They will be able to observe and relate how the fragile starfish is suited to life in our marine ecosystem. They gain confidence of their ability to think like a scientist using these materials.
This project in past years was the one my students always raved about.
In my course evaluations they would write, "The Starfish Lab was so cool. I got to be a scientist!" or "I thought it was going be gross, but it was not, the starfish are beautiful animals." And all of them would ask, "When can we do another dissection lab?"
