This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a high poverty neighborhood where most families struggle to make ends meet. These supplies would be essential to helping students create work of their highest potential. My students come to class every day where they are provided with breakfast and are willing and ready to learn despite the challenges they face on a daily basis. Providing them with the tools they need will help to further ensure success.

We are a fifth grade class in a high-poverty area.

Unknowingly, we were asked to send our students home with two weeks worth of classwork and books to read. Little did I, or the students, know we would not see each other again until a date still to be determined. As my students came to school every day knowing they would be safe, learn, and we would have each other and it is like our home. I, too, left many of my own supplies that I would use at home to create a virtual classroom on my end of the remote learning world.

My Project

Not knowing that I would not have access to my classroom, and in turn, create a virtual classroom in my home, I would love to have some supplies to make teaching more colorful. I need paper, pencils, and markers to create models of work to upload and to share in my virtual classroom with students.

Having paper and writing utensils to do this may motivate the students to be more creative through presentation- also to highlight the scaffolding of assignments for students who have visual needs as well as ESL students.
