Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Could you imagine not being able to read? My students need motivation and a fun way to learn how to read. Some of my students are in my 2nd grade class and still are reading on a Kindergarten level. Why? They are not motivated and do not have the extra resources at home.

My school is 95% free/reduced lunch.

Some of my students do not have the resources or support at home to help them read successfully. I am sure during school is the only time they pick up a book in some cases. I have many students in 2nd grade that are reading on a Kindergarten or First Grade level. These students need to catch up quickly! Many of my students lack motivation for reading and need fun ways to learn.

My Project

My classroom needs 1 Leapfrog Tag Reader System, 2 Tag Reader books to get started with, and 7 Level 1 books to also practice reading on their level. I am sure my students will love it! They will think it is like playing a game instead of just reading. They will learn and want to read with this cool reading tool! With the extra books, they will be able to read something more on their level and not be frustrated. I know my students will appreciate any donation towards this gift. They will be so excited to start reading the new books or use the tag reader system.

Donations for this request will make a difference!

You can help 2nd grade students enjoy reading! The more students read, the more likely it will be that they will read on a 3rd grade level by the end of 2nd grade! Hopefully, they will develop a love for books and continue reading just for fun in the future.
