Make Reading Fun, Magical, and Exciting in Our Classroom
My students need a classroom that encourages independent and shared reading. A colorful and inviting carpet to sit on while I read to and teach them will make learning more fun. They also need books, a storage cart, book bins, a table, and more.
My students are wonderful, energetic, and creative first graders in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. They come from a variety of backgrounds but have the common goal of becoming better readers and students this upcoming school year. Our school is part of the turnaround network, which means that academic performance levels were well below expectations and students are in need of as much education, love, and support as possible. This upcoming school year is our 2nd year as a turnaround school and we have already made great progress with the students academically as well as improved the school climate immensely.
All of my students came from economically disadvantaged families but deserve the best education and school experience possible.
As their teacher, I will try my best to provide them with as many resources and materials as possible to increase their learning, love of school, and overall positive experience in my classroom this year .
My Project
One of my goals as a first grade teacher this upcoming school year is to motivate all my students to love reading, both independently, on their own level, and together with friends or as a class.
To accomplish this goal, I want to create a book-filled and positive classroom that invites all readers to find a spot on the ABC rug, or at their desk/table, and enjoy learning to be great readers!
New leveled books on an organized cart will make choosing a book on their reading level easy and accessible. A bright, colorful rug and whiteboard/easel will make whole group learning comfortable and exciting. Guided reading lessons at the new half-moon shaped table will help each child learn new reading comprehension skills and increase their reading levels.
My class and I would greatly appreciate any donation to help make this upcoming school year a productive, engaging, and wonderful one!
