My Students
I teach second grade in a K-5 public elementary school in middle Tennessee. Our school has many English Language Learners and low-income families. Our school focuses on a family environment and involving parents in as many school activities as possible.
As a teacher, I focus heavily on building relationships with each of my students.
I truly believe that students need to feel wanted, appreciated, and cared for by their teachers in order to be able to learn from them. I find that especially in low-income areas, loving my students is the most important part of my job.
My second graders are the sweetest bunch of kids, that are always so excited to learn!
My Project
One of my goals as a teacher is to help spark each child's interest in reading. Reading is such an important part of everyday life and we are working hard to get each child reading on grade level before they move on to third grade in order to set them up for success. One way to help them do this is by getting their wiggles out, so that they can focus! I believe that using these wiggle seats will truly help them exert their extra energy and wiggles in order to become successful readers.
I am hoping to have an array of different books in order to allow each of my students to find something that peaks their interests.
Education is changing every single day, and so are the interests of my students. Our classroom does not have a large collection of books on their reading level, so I would like to have books that will hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom. My students and I appreciate any and all help! Thank you!
