My Students
Bottom line...my students LOVE fantasy books! Faeries. Vampires. Zombies. Magical creatures. Werewolves. Dragons. Wizards. I can go on for hours! It is indisputable that FANTASY is the "now" genre in my 7th grade Literacy classes. Only one small problem...my classroom library is fantasy-less!
I teach 3 highly motivated and diversified Language Arts classes.
They come from many walks of life and backgrounds - but for some reason - all share a desire to read as many fantasy novels as possible. To be honest, fantasy is probably my least favorite genre of them all (maybe that's why I have accumulated so few fantasy books over the years). But who am I to stand in between my students and the books that they crave? If it's fantasy that they want, then it's fantasy that they'll get - with your help, of course!
My Project
I can't imagine the reaction my students would have if we took a trip back to our classroom library - a library now containing basket after basket of fantasy books! I am positive there will be lots of disbelief and shouts of joy mixed in with a ton of other emotional reactions. These books would make a tremendous impact on the everyday lives of my Literacy classes.
What's the easiest way to put a smile on the faces of 96 seventh graders?
Give them the books they dream about! Help fulfill the fantasy of my classes by putting new and exciting fantasy books in their hands! It will make a life-long difference, which will be appreciated and remembered more than you could ever imagine.
